Images From Mars From The Mars Curiosity Rover

Curiosity is a car-sized rover designed to explore the crater Gale on Mars as part of NASA's Mars Science Laboratory mission (MSL). Curiosity was launched on November 26th, 2011, and landed on Aeolis Palus inside Gale on Mars on August 6th, 2012 after a 56 million km (35 million mi) journey.

The rover's goals include an investigation of the Martian climate and geology; assessment of whether the selected field site inside Gale has ever offered environmental conditions favorable for microbial life, including investigation of the role of water; and planetary habitability studies in preparation for human exploration.

5 Cool Facts About Space and the Solar System

Space is fascinating. The stunning beauty of it, the uncountable number of stars, galaxies and planets present and the sheer space makes one wonder, when you take a look.

1. Our Solar System is really old - The Solar System is the region that is covered by the Sun's gravity. Accurately speaking, it is 4.571 billion years old. Scientists estimate that in about 5 billion years, our Sun will expand becoming a Red Giant (I will write on this later). In about 7.5 billion years its expanding surface will swallow up and engulf the Earth.

2. Space is completely silent - Sound needs a medium to travel. Since there is no atmosphere in space, there is no way sound can travel. We hear sounds on Earth because there is a medium through which it can travel, air. No such thing in space. Astronauts in space use radio waves to communicate with one another. Radio waves can travel through a vacuum.

3. Venus is the hottest planet on our Solar System - Venus is the hottest planet in the solar system and has an average surface temperature of around 450° C.

4. The Sun is gigantic - The Sun is so big that one million Earths can fit right into the Sun. And there are stars far bigger than the Sun (the Sun is a star and it is the closet star to us). The second closest star to us is known as Proxima Centauri. It is trillions of kilometers away. Compared to other stars, the Sun is average sized.

5. Space has a whole lot of junk - Space junk is any human-made object orbiting Earth that no longer serves a useful purpose. Scientists estimate there are about 500,000 pieces of space junk today, including fragments from rockets and satellites, and everyday items like spanners dropped during construction of the International Space Station!

Some Facts About Light

1. Light is the fastest-moving stuff in the Universe. It travels an astonishing 300,000km per second. That's around 186000 miles per second.

2. Traveling at the speed of light, you can circle the Earth's equator in about 8 seconds

3. Due to the vastness of the Universe (it is constantly expanding), distance is measured in light-years and AUs. A light-year is the distance light travels in a year. An AU is the Astronomical Unit, which is the distance between the Earth and the Sun.

4. A light-year is the distance light covers in a year. There are about 3 billion seconds in a year. Light travels 300 million meters in a second. So in a year, light travels about 9 trillion kilometers. That is around 6 trillion miles. If two objects are 10 light-years apart, that is 90 trillion kilometers. Huuuuge

5. One AU is the distance between the Earth and the Sun. That's roughly 150 million kilometers. So if two objects in space are 3 AUs apart, that is 450 million kilometers.

6. It takes 8 minutes for light to reach us from the Sun. Takes about 1.3 seconds from the Moon

7. Some stars you see in the sky are 'dead' already. The light you see is from when the stars were still alive. Before the light could get to Earth, the stars had lived and 'died'. A star dies when the fuel in its core is used up.

8. The closest star after the Sun (The Sun is a star) is called Proxima Centauri. It is around 4.22 light-years away.

Poems for my friend

I go through my phone
Scrolling through pictures of you
Mesmerized by your smile
Enamored by your beauty
You pull the strings in my heart
I love how you make me feel
I love listening to your voice
I love waking up to hear from you
And sleep to dream of you
You are my love. My happiness
You are the definition of perfect.

Damn.
How are you so beautiful?

What is magic?
It's you and me, together
What's love?
It's you and me, together
What's happiness?
It's you and me, together
A bright ray of sunshine
In this cold world
That's what you are
You are my blooming flower
And my resting place

Hearing you call my name
Is the greatest form of poetry

Didn't know love could be this beautiful
Didn't know my heart could beat this strongly
Didn't know I could blush so much
Didn't know feeling could be this real
Didn't know all these..until I met you

How to Create Multiple Streams of Income

We admire the rich and wealthy in society. We read about them. We dream to be like them. We follow their every move, latest acquisitions and business takeovers. I have studied many of the rich, and one thing I have noticed about them is none of them became wealthy by having just one source of income.

Dangote, Otedola, Adenuga and the likes have interests in a lot of sectors and are doing well. With multiple streams of income, you are assured of financial independence and security. Of course, you don’t have to start by building a refinery or buying a hydroelectric station, but in your own corner, you can take little steps that ultimately result in financial freedom.

Before we dive right into some income-generating ideas, I will like to share 4 foundational principles that you must follow to make your journey a success.

1.      Base Income: Before you even think of creating multiple sources of income, you will need to have a base income. It could be a job, a business, or monetizing your skill. The advantages of having a base income are enormous. First, you will always have something to fall back on in case of any emergency. Secondly, this will help you in minimizing any pressures you encounter while you set up your other businesses.

2.      Patience: Creating multiple streams of income takes time and effort. Avoid any quick rich scheme. At the end of the day, you will bite your fingers.

3.      Knowledge: You cannot simply dabble into a project ignorantly and expect success. Most times, it does not work that way. You need to have sufficient knowledge of whatever project you want to embark upon. There are books available, online tutorials that you can take advantage of.

4.      Mentorship: Mentors have threaded the path before you and therefore have sufficient knowledge that will be useful to you. Whatever source of income you want to engage in, look for a mentor in that field and connect.

Now, let us look into ideas that are bound to generate additional income for you, apart from your base income.

1.      Invest: There are lots of investment options available that you can take advantage of. Farmcrowdy is an option for those interested in agriculture. There are platforms that allow you to save your money over a period of time and you get interest. Mutual funds, T Bills, government bonds are quite popular too.

2.      Write a book: There are some subjects that you know well and could be an authority in. Writing a book is an interesting way of monetizing such knowledge. Platforms like Okadabooks has been set up for authors to write, sell and earn money

3.      Blogging: Linda Ikeji, one of the most popular bloggers in Nigeria is an example. If writing a book looks difficult, you could start a blog on your interest. Food, politics, science, fashion…whatever it is, people want to read. The more visitors you have on your blog, the more the potential of making money

4.      Real Estate: You almost can never go wrong with this. Real estate is one of the most secure ways of earning extra income. This is because over time, real estate properties, landed properties, for example, tend to appreciate.

5.      Mini Importation: Online platforms like Alibaba and Wish have products that are generally affordable. With mini importation of those products, you could sell to your neighbors, friends, and colleagues. And the best part, you do not have to leave your house while at it.

6.      Tutorials: You can tutor students or those writing professionals. There are online platforms like Tuteria you can take advantage of. Creating a Youtube channel too is extremely effective.

Nothing is better than having money enter your accounts from different sources. You need to take advantage of the numerous opportunities available around you. Meet a need and ensure you get paid for it.

Karma is bullshit

Karma, I believe, is bullshit.

It is not everyone that does bad that will reap the rewards in their lifetimes. Some truly evil people have lived well, enjoyed life and died well. Karma means perfect justice. People getting exactly what they deserve. Bad humans getting bad things. Good people getting good things.

Karma is a social construct to modify the behaviour of humans. It has worked well, but it is failing. We see honest good men die young. We see evil people enjoy life. We see honest men live miserable lives. We see slaves ruling over kings. We see kings turn to slaves.

Ecclesiastes 7:5

All things have I seen in the days of my vanity: there is a just man that perisheth in his righteousness, and there is a wicked man that prolongeth his life in his wickedness.

This is not to encourage evil living. Evil has consequences. In fact, every action has consequences. (Newton's Third Law). So ensure you live your life well, putting others into consideration first. But do not do so because of the fear of karma. Because when you see those that have escaped karma (you will surely see), you might be tempted to change your ways. You do not deserve that.

Love and its idiosyncrasies

Love

Love is the most abused word on Earth. Everyone claims he or she loves. Everyone claims he/she is a lover. You feel a little sensation in your belly when you see or think of someone, you call it love. That is bullshit.

The sensation you feel when you see someone beautiful or you are attracted to is not love, it is a basic chemical reaction going on in your brain. Love is not an attraction. Love is not a likeness. Love is much more than a feeling. Love is action. Love is hard work. Gritty, hard work.

Love is forgiveness. Love is putting others first. Love is praying for your enemies. Love is not wishing evil on someone that has done nothing but evil to you. Love is not selfish. Love is praying for your parents that were never there for you. Love is respect. Love is giving. Love is sacrifice.

Love is going out all the way for someone who would not move an inch for you. Love is not repaying evil for evil. Love is overcoming evil with good.

Love was expressed in its purest form when God sent His Son to die for the sins of man, even while we were still in that sin. God took the greatest risk of all. Man could reject him. Man could refuse to believe in Him, yet, he sent his Son. That is love. I don't care how bad you are. I don't care how selfish you are. I don't care how evil you are, but I will pray for you anyway. I will forgive you anyway. That is love.

So before you claim someone loves you, ask yourself if that person loves God. Because if you don't appreciate God's love, you cannot fully love others. Only someone lost in God's love can fully love you.

A quote from 1st Corinthians 13, The Message version

Love never gives up.
Love cares more for others than for self.
Love doesn’t want what it doesn’t have.
Love doesn’t strut,
Doesn’t have a swelled head,
Doesn’t force itself on others,
Isn’t always “me first,”
Doesn’t fly off the handle,
Doesn’t keep score of the sins of others,
Doesn’t revel when others grovel,
Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth,
Puts up with anything,
Trusts God always,
Always looks for the best,
Never looks back,
But keeps going to the end.

I just finished my fourth book this year.

One of my New Year's resolutions is to read as many books as possible covering different genres. I want to explore different themes, different works from different authors from different cultures.

Here's the list of books I have read
1. Noo Saro Wiwa - Looking for Transwonderland
